A Milestone in Compact Performance – The Fastest BMW M2 Yet

The all-new BMW M2 CS has redefined what it means to be a compact high-performance sports car. On April 11, 2025, the M2 CS tore through the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, also known as the “Green Hell”, in just 7:25.5, setting a new lap record in the compact class. Driven by BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger, this lap was over 8 seconds faster than the previous compact car benchmark and 13 seconds quicker than the previous best for a BMW M2 model.

This record-setting feat not only places the M2 CS at the top of its class, it further cements BMW M’s legacy of track-proven engineering and exhilarating driving dynamics.

Pushing the Limits: What Makes the M2 CS So Special

The new BMW M2 CS delivers everything enthusiasts love about M. Pure performance, precise handling, and intelligent engineering. Highlights include:

  • 523 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology
  • 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic for lightning-fast shifts
  • Lightweight construction including carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) elements that shave off nearly 100 lbs
  • Adaptive M suspension and M Compound brakes for track-ready agility and control
  • Standard forged M alloy wheels

This is the most powerful and agile M2 to date, and it’s not just fast on paper. It has proven its performance on one of the world’s most demanding tracks.

The Nürburgring: The Ultimate Proving Ground

Affectionately called the “Green Hell”, the Nürburgring-Nordschleife is a grueling 12.9-mile course with over 70 turns, testing the limits of both driver and machine. It’s the gold standard for measuring true performance and every M vehicle is put to the test here during development.

BMW M’s deep connection to the Nürburgring spans over 25 years, with a dedicated BMW M Test Center, M Driving Experience, and M Power Grandstand all located at the track. Every BMW M vehicle earns its badge on this very pavement and the new M2 CS is the latest to prove its pedigree.
