Servicing Your EV

Servicing Your EV at Bill Jacobs BMW in Naperville

Transitioning to a fully electric vehicle does mean fewer maintenance costs than a traditional combustion engine. However, there are still some scheduled services you will need for your EV to run smoothly. The Service Team at Bill Jacobs BMW still recommends changing your brake pads, fluid checks, tire rotation, and battery checks. Schedule your EV maintenance at Bill Jacobs BMW in Naperville and our factory-trained Service Technicians will make sure you and your EV stay together through the long haul.

Below are the recommended routine maintenance services you should schedule at Bill Jacobs BMW:

Brake pads

Your BMW EV will still need its brake pads maintained and serviced. The EV advantage is that the EV brake design uses regenerative braking. Electric motors use regenerative braking as generators by transferring energy from the wheels to an electrical load. Regenerative braking takes the kinetic energy of your vehicle and uses it to slow it down. In addition to improving the vehicle’s overall efficiency, regeneration can significantly extend the life of the braking system as the mechanical parts will not wear out very quickly.

Fluid Checks

Electric vehicles still require owners to maintain their vehicle’s brake fluid, coolant, and windshield washer fluid. These fluids should be monitored and brought in to Bill Jacobs BMW in Naperville for service and change whenever necessary. It is recommended to get brake fluid inspected and changed every 22,000 miles or two years. Coolant should be changed over every 150,000 miles or five years.

Tires

As with any car, your BMW EV will need regular tire maintenance as well. It is recommended that every 7,500 miles or every six months you get the tires rotated. We recommend referencing your owner’s manual for specific tire recommendations.

Battery

The lithium ion batteries that power EVs offer greater energy density and tend to hold a charge longer, however, every battery in an EV that is sold in the U.S. comes with a warranty that lasts for a minimum of eight (8) years or up to 100,000 miles. The current prediction is that an electric car battery will last from 10 – 20 years before they need to be replaced. As part of their commitment to achieving climate neutrality and massively expanding its use of secondary material in closed recycling loops, BMW Group has created a “closed recycling loop” to maximize the recycling rate for battery raw materials and to use all resources responsibly.
