Electric BMWs Get Two Years Of Free 30-Minute Public Charging Sessions

BMW USA is partnering with Electrify America and offering its electric vehicle customers two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions. This perk for BMW electric owners kicks off in March of 2022, and new BMW EV owners can charge their EVs at all Electrify America public charging stations from the date of purchase at no additional cost—for the first 30 minutes, of course.
BMW Electric Cars to Come with 2 Years of Public Charging
The complimentary EV charging program will launch in March with new model offerings, including the BMW iX xDrive50, BMW i4 eDrive40, and BMW i4 M50. Buyers will have access to Electrify America’s ultra-fast charging network at over 3,000 chargers across the United States. BMW plans to announce more electric models and benefits later this year.
Electrify America operates the largest fast-charging network in the U.S., with the capability of delivering from 150 kW to 350 kW, the quickest speed today. It has 800 EV charging stations and approximately 3,500 ultra-fast chargers, either up and running or newly built. The company plans to expand its infrastructure with 1,800 charging stations, including 10,000 individual chargers, in the U.S. and Canada by 2026.
The first-ever BMW iX and i4 electric models can add between 90 to 108 miles of range in 10 minutes. The complimentary 30-minute charge should more than cover their away-from-home charging needs.
BMW Electric Charging Tip:
Remember, electric cars can take on greater amounts of charge more quickly when the battery is mostly depleted. At above 80 percent charge, the rate slows, which is why road-tripping electric cars are more time-efficient when running the battery down to near empty, charging up to 80 percent, then continuing on to the next charger—ideally reaching that next stop with minimal charge again, rather than fully charging the battery at every stop or “topping off. “
