2022 BMW iX vs i4

The 2022 BMW iX is an all-electric SUV, while the 2022 BMW i4 is an all-electric sedan. Although this fact alone might be enough to sway you toward one model or the other, we think that Naperville, Aurora and Chicagoland drivers will benefit from a closer look at what each of these EVs has to offer. Take a minute and compare the BMW iX vs. i4 on pricing, performance, range, charging times, and more! Then, pre-order your perfect BMW iX or BMW i4 model from Bill Jacobs BMW.

IX VS. I4: PRICING

The i4 starts with a price tag of $55,400 MSRP, but it will also be offered in a more expensive trim that starts at $65,900 MSRP. There are significant differences in performance between these two models, but both i4 configurations are less expensive than the baseline BMW iX.

The iX starts at $83,200 MSRP. Although a second, more powerful configuration has been hinted at, we’re still not exactly sure what kind of price tag it will carry.

IX VS. I4: PERFORMANCE

There’s a good reason for the iX model’s higher starting price. As standard, it has a lot more to offer in terms of power and torque. However, the available i4 M50 is the true performance champion at the time of this writing. Compare your options here:

  • iX Performance: Go from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds with 516 hp and 564 lb-ft of torque. The iX includes two electric motors and standard all-wheel drive.
  • I4 Performance: The baseline i4 eDrive40 offers 335 hp, 317 lb-ft of torque, and a 0–60 time of 5.5 seconds. The more powerful i4 M50 delivers 536 hp and 586 lb-ft of torque and takes you from 0 to 60 in as little as 3.7 seconds.

So, if you’re looking for impressive speed and power, the i4 M50 may be your best bet! However—as you’ll see below—the iX offers a balance of impressive power and superior range that may be preferable for urban drivers in Naperville, Aurora, and the Chicagoland area.

IX VS. I4: RANGE

The iX xDrive50 SUV is expected to offer roughly 300 miles of range on a full charge. The same is true for the i4 xDrive40; however, the iX will provide more power along the way. The BMW i4 M50 has a range of 240 miles on a full charge. That’s still a fantastic rating—but drivers who struggle with range anxiety may still prefer one of the other models in our EV lineup.

IX VS. I4: CHARGING TIMES

Charging times can make or break any electric vehicle. With that said, neither the iX nor the i4 will disappoint:

  • At-Home Charging: With a BMW Wallbox, you can take the i4 from 0% to 100% in nine hours or less. Under the same conditions, the iX takes 12 hours to charge up to full.
  • EVGo Public Charging: For casual recharging on the go, locate an EVGo charging station to restore up to 80% of your battery in 40 minutes. This number stays constant whether you drive an iX or an i4.
  • Public DC Fast Charging: When you’re road-tripping or you just don’t have time to spare, stop into a DC Fast Charging station in your area. These specialized ports can restore up to 90 miles in ten minutes with the i4, or up to 88 miles in ten minutes with the iX.
