The BMW M3 Celebrates 30 Years

June 16th, 2016 by

2016 is a big year for BMW. From the automaker’s 100th birthday to the 50th anniversary of the BMW 2002 coupe, important milestones are arriving left and right. The latest? The BMW M3 has just turned 30. And to celebrate, the BMW brand is manufacturing an anniversary run of the vehicle that they’ve aptly named “30 Jahre M3” over in Munich—or “30 Years M3” for those not up on their German.

This anniversary run will be limited to a scant 500 vehicles. To denote the 30 Years M3 models, BMW will adorn each one with unique badges on the front fenders, door sills with “30 Years M3” lettering, a dash plaque, interior upholstery with blue and gray seat inserts, and stitched headrests. Each 30 Years M3 model will also feature the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with enhanced features, including a black chrome tailpipe trim for the M sports exhaust system. Of course, the special edition’s biggest visual cue will be the Macao Blue metallic exterior color—borrowed from the original E30.

Beyond distinctive looks, the 30 Years M3 will feature the Competition Package standard, with an uprated 450 horsepower engine. The electronically controlled Adaptive M suspension has been comprehensively aligned to the increased performance. Newly optimized springs, dampers, and stabilizers, accordingly modified Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes, similarly modified standard Active M differential on the rear axle, and Dynamic Stability Control feature (DSC) give this anniversary BMW model a notable increase in performance.
