Last month, BMW celebrated its 100th birthday, kicking off Centenary activities in Munich. Those activities included a live stream event that featured the unveiling of the BMW Vision Vehicle, the Vision Next 100. The incredible concept car looks like something out of a childhood sci-fi fantasy, and serves as a bold statement that, even at 100 years, BMW is just getting started.

“At the BMW Group, we are always on a quest for the best solution. It’s part of our DNA,” said Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. The BMW Group has long been at the forefront of the industry, with an enviable capacity to learn and adapt, a thirst for technological innovation, and a commanding sense of responsibility toward society. The Group brought all of this to bear in their design of the BMW Vision Next 100, creating a vehicle that emphasizes the concept of “premium mobility.”

“Our objective with the BMW Vision Next 100 was to develop a future scenario that people would engage with,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. The car features Alive Geometry, an AI that manages driver-vehicle interactions, including the handling of cameras, sensors, navigation, GPS, big data, and learned patterns to actively predict hazards, trends, and traffic. The vehicle also boasts two modes, Boost and Ease, that allow for the choice between driver-controlled or vehicle-controlled operations. Even more incredible: the interior of the vehicle actually transforms to fit the mode you choose, with Ease mode cuing the steering wheel and center console to retract, the headrests to turn to the side, and the seats and door trim to merge and form a single unit so that the driver and front-seat passenger can turn towards each other.
